Not so good at cleaning eye glasses January 6, 2009 Purchased item to clean my reading glasses; However, the glasses do not come out clean, no matter how long they are in the bath. I have resisted using the chemical booster as the advertising says use plain water... and I used distilled water - just to be safe.
Have no comment in jewelry cleaning as I don't wear any.
Very Simple and Easy to Use November 8, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is very simple and easy to use. It is advisable to use hot water for ultrasonic cleaners (around 150F). You may need to add a little soap or ammonia to make it work best. Water alone is not sufficient.
- It does work, but don't expect it to work like the professional jeweler uses - Big enough to hold eye glasses - Not an eyesore, it actually looks nice. It has a soothing blue LED light inside. - It comes with a plastic rack for easy removal of your jewelries - At 35W, it consumes less energy than a light bulb - Very affordable at around 30$
Rooms for improvement: - The 3-minute cycle is not enough. An adjustable timer would be nice.
Smaller than I thought October 5, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I had thought this would be bigger than it is. I guess that's OK because really had it been larger it would be cumbersome to store and use. It did what I wanted it to do. It doesn't require ultrasonic cleanser but I'll be using that from now on. My rings get very gunked up with lotion so I need a bit of cleanser in the machine to get them really clean. I had to run my earrings through twice to get them nicely clean but again I think that's because I was using just water.
This unit is loud. But I'm pleased with it overall and happy I bought it.
Good machine but wait for sale February 16, 2008 21 out of 22 found this review helpful
This machine has worked great in cleaning up some used jewelry I bought online. I used it with a commercial jewelry cleaner liquid soap, so that might help with effectiveness. I was pretty amazed in how well it cleaned out the tight undergallery of a tanzanite ring - the stones were a completely different color (darker and better) than before the cleaning and actually sparkled again. Just one three-minute cycle seems to do the trick but for really gunky undergalleries more cycles are likely needed.
I was able to find this cleaner new on Amazon for $18 - if there aren't any available at that price now, I recommend waiting to see if that price will be posted again. I would NOT use this machine with fine pave settings or cheaply crafted prong settings because it knocked out a diamond baguette in one of my other rings (not high quality) on the first cleaning. Fortunately, whatever it knocks out settles to the bottom of the stainless steel compartment. I also would not use it for glued inlays (e.g., some black opal rings).
Awesome Sonic Cleaner August 23, 2007 30 out of 31 found this review helpful
This cleaner keeps all my jewelry sparkling like new. When you have a very dirty ring it takes a few cycles and even a toothbrush to clean it for the FIRST time. This cleaner will maintain your clean ring. I use it daily and all my rings look like new. It also helps to change the water and clean the cleaner out with a dry towel depending on how much you use it. I clean mine once a month or whenever the water gets dirty. And that is the point, the water is dirty, and therefore the cleaner is working. If you need extra cleaning power put a drop of dish soap in the cleaner. This is an incredible price as well.
